MARKETING MATERIALS
For your convenience, AXIS compiled a list of common questions regarding continuing education, joint providership, etc; answers are provided below. Click on the topic above that seems most related to your question and search for your particular question in that section of this page.
- When working with AXIS, do we need to “recognize” AXIS on the announcements/invitations/brochures and web postings for our activity?
- What items must be displayed on our brochures/announcements/brochures and web postings?
- If I send a “save-the-date” postcard, does it have to include all the informational items listed in the announcement criteria mentioned in the answer to the question above?
- Can a “save-the-date” postcard for a certified activity mention that continuing education credit/contact hours will be available for the activity if the invitation does not include the learning objectives associated with the activity?
Yes. When working with AXIS in a joint provider relationship, AXIS serves as the accredited provider and, as such, is accountable for the activity. From a continuing education perspective, AXIS is the accredited organization and is the provider of the activity. When 2 organizations work on developing a certified activity, and one organization is an accredited provider and the other is not, then the accredited provider is listed as the provider for the activity. If both organizations are accredited providers, then either can take the role of provider.
It is essential that the marketing materials do not imply that the joint provider (ie, the non-accredited organization) is the main provider of the activity or that the mention of the continuing education provider is buried somewhere in the “fine print.” In fact, the name of the non-accredited organization cannot be materially bigger than that of the accredited provider.
Marketing materials may include something like:
- (1) The activity is jointly provided by AXIS Medical Education and <
> or - (2) Jointly provided by <
> and < >.
Once all requirements regarding the development of the activity are fulfilled, AXIS will calculate the credits/contact hours for the activity and provide the formal accreditation statement(s) for placement on all announcements/invitations/brochures and web postings. These statements, and any accompanying icons, must be displayed just as AXIS provides it to you.
The items listed below are required by continuing education (CE) accrediting bodies to appear on all activity announcements/flyers/brochures and web postings. There are no exceptions to this.
- Title of activity
- Date(s) and location of the activity
- AXIS must be recognized as the provider of the activity on the front page of the announcement/flyer/brochure/ and web posting
- Objectives; verbs must elicit or describe observable or measurable behaviors on the part of participants
- Target audience(s) that may best benefit from participation in the activity
- Faculty member(s) name, degree, and title/position
- Financial disclosure information (or lack thereof) on all faculty and planners/managers
- Fees for the activity
- Schedule/timed agenda for live activities
- The appropriate formal CE accreditation statement(s) and amount of CE credit, specified in contact hours
- A full description of all requirements established by the provider for successful completion of the CE activity and subsequent awarding of credit (eg, passing a post-test at a specified proficiency level, completing an activity evaluation form, participating in all sessions or certain combinations of sessions that have been designed as a track, etc)
- Acknowledgment of any organization(s) providing financial support (commercial interest) for any component of the educational activity.
Additional, required elements for all activities that are certified for pharmacy credit:
- The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education universal activity number (UAN) assigned to the activity.
Other:
- Some accreditations, eg, National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) and the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI), require a logo/icon to accompany the formal accreditation statement(s).
These elements are not required but participants often decide whether to attend based on this information:
- Description of the content, in brief, paragraph format
- Brief biography of each speaker/faculty member
No. However, if there is mention on the postcard of a mechanism by which a participant can preregister for the activity then the postcard must include all the mandated information required for announcements.
Yes, but only by using a generic statement. Because the planning process has not been completed, disclosure forms not collected/reviewed, conflicts of interest not identified/resolved, etc, the complete information about continuing education credits/contact hours has still not been determined. Therefore, most “save-the-dates” postcards include only a generic statement about continuing education credits/contacts hours, something like this: “Continuing education contact hours will be available for this activity.”
